More than 2,700 Hawaiʻi Walmart employees received a share of over $698,000 in bonus payouts in their March 9 paychecks, the company announced on March 13.
The bonuses were based on the retail giant’s fourth quarter earnings, the strongest sales performance of the year totalling at 1.8 percent.
“As a manager, it’s great to be able to reward our store associates for their hard work and strong performances,” said Steven Reed, Hawaiʻi market manager for Walmart. “When our associates succeed, our company succeeds and it’s reflected in improved customer experiences at our stores across Hawaiʻi.”

Over the last two years, the retail giant said it has invested billions of dollars throughout its stores in training, education and higher wages. The company also highlighted its efforts to provide advancement opportunities for its employees, citing 378 promotions for Hawaiʻi associates to higher-paying positions, and 437 promotions of Hawaiʻi associates from part-time to full-time status during fiscal year 2017.
Nationwide, some 850,000 Walmart associates received a share of more than $157 million in cash bonuses based on store performances during the fourth quarter.
