Habitat for Humanity West Hawaiʻi is seeking volunteers to support the construction of ten homes over a ten-day period from Sept. 13 to 23, 2017.
The event will be called a “Blitz Build” and will mainly be conducted through volunteer labor to house local families.
Help is needed for construction of the ten homes, as well as food service, security and registration.

“Swinging a hammer will not be the only way to help out with the Blitz Build,” said Patrick Hurney, Habitat for Humanity West Hawaiʻi executive director. “We are going to need so many people that will be willing to pick-up and serve the food, set-up and clean-up the work sites, help us sign in volunteers – it’s going to take everyone to make it a success.”

Eight families are approved so far to live in the homes slated to be built in September. The families joined at the La’i ‘Opua neighborhood early on Saturday, March 4, for a communal blessing of the construction sites.
Pastor Tex from The Hub led the opening prayer and final blessing. The families conducted individual blessings at the sites of their future homes.

“It’s a very important day, for a lot of reasons,” said Hurney. “First, the families get to take the time to bless their lots, and reflect. Second, it’s exciting, because it’s the first real step that the families get to take with us towards building and owning their homes.”
