Joanne Parker Townsend, 90, of Hilo, HI, passed away on Feb. 26, 2017. Joanne was born on Sept. 4, 1926, in Bakersfield, CA.

Joanne retired as an Executive Secretary.

Services for Joanne will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at St. Joseph Catholic Church (43 Kapiolani St., Hilo, HI 96720). Visitation starts at 11 a.m. Funeral Mass starts at 11:30 a.m. Luncheon to follow at Alapai’s Residence 671 Kalanikoa St. Hilo, HI 96720.

Joanne is survived by her Husband William Ku’ulei Townsend; Sons Tim(Lee)Walsh, and Michael Walsh; Stepson George(Barbara)Townsend; Daughter Sharon(Robert)Alapai; Stepdaughter Billie Ann Isomura; 16 Grandchildren; and 21 Great-Grandchildren. Arrangements by Ballard Family Mortuary-Hilo

Kayleb Makalapua pukala’o Waipio Horn, 18, of Kamuela, HI passed away on Feb. 16, 2017 at ENMU. She was born on July 25, 1998 at NHCH. She was a student and former McDonald’s worker.

She is survived by parents Bernard and Courtney Horn; Sisters Baylie and Chandler Horn. Grandparents Warren Horn and Kathleen Aken of Kamuela, and Sandra and Clarence Baijo of Honolulu. Aunts and Uncles Warren Horn Jr., Kanani Horn, Elai and Raynette Horn, James(Michelle)Horn, Jubilee(Delcie)Horn, Jay and Danalynn Horn, Justin Cootey, Samantha and Arturo Martinez, Jasmine and Dustin Miller, Johana(Alan)Baijo, Jonathan(Rose)Baijo, and Janice Pagdilao(Jesse) and numerous cousins.

Funeral Service to be held at Anunciation Catholic Church in Kamuela on March 11, 2017. Visitation begins at 8:30 a.m. Funeral Mass to follow at 9:45 a.m. Leis and loose flowers welcome. Pink attire requested. Arrangements by Ballard Family Mortuary-Hilo.

Honorina Tuiolelago Ahia, 77 of Lahaina passed away Feb. 23, 2017 at Maui Memorial Medical Center. She was born in American Samoa on April 3, 1939.

Rini loved all of her grandkids, and was known as “Tutu”. She gave her time and talents by starting the hula ministry in Kings Chapel in Lahaina and was loved by all in her Congregation. She performed the hula internationally, loved her family and was a great leader. Another of her passions were floral designs and decorating.

Visitation will be held at Ballard Family Mortuary in Kahului on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 from 6 to 9 p.m. with service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at King’s Cathedral in Lahaina from 9 a.m. to noon with service at 11 a.m. Cremation will follow.

Honorina is survived by her husband, Samuel Ahia; son, Howard (Katrina) Ahia; daughter, Lisa (Gary) Gazaway; brother, Benjamin Shafer; sisters, Violet Dilauro, Dianne To’omalata’I, Gail Cahill, 4 grandsons, Samuel Kerckhoff, Jonathan Ahia, Christopher Ahia, Jordon Talbot; granddaughters, Angeligue Ahia, Catherine Ahia, Ella Ahia, Lindsey Gazaway, Lily Ahia, Jasmine Ahia, Violet Ahia; and 2 great grandsons, Levi Ahia-Recinos and Nathaniel Gross, 1 great granddaughter, Kaimi Beatty. She is predeceased by her son, Conrad Ahia and daughter, Sina Ahia.

Herman Joseph Calasa Sr., 83, of Haʻikū, passed away on Feb. 18, 2017 in Kahului surrounded by his loving family. He was born on Dec. 4, 1933 in Sprecklesville, Maui.

Herman was the owner/operator of Herman‘s Repairs Auto Wrecking & Towing.

He is survived by his wife, Caroline Calasa; sons, Herman J. (RoseMary) Calasa Jr., Earl M. (Gigi) Calasa, Rodney J. (Sandy) Calasa Sr.; sister, Annette Peters; 9 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.

Moses K. Kauhaahaa Jr., 85 of Kahakuloa, Maui passed away on Feb. 16, 2017 at his residence under the care of his loving family and Islands Hospice. He was born on Nov. 16, 1931 in Honolulu.

Moses retired from Maui Electric Company.

Visitations will be held on Sunday, March 5, 2017 at Ballard Family Mortuary Kahului from 9 to 11 a.m.; with service to begin at 11 a.m.; cremation to follow.

Tranquilina Corpuz Barrientos, 88 of Kahului passed away on Feb. 13, 2017 in the care of his loving family and Island Hospice. She was born on June 19, 1928 in Urdaneta City, Pangasinan, Philippines.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, March 23, 2017, at Norman’s Mortuary.

Visitation will resume at 8:30 to 10 a.m. on Friday, March 24, 2017, with burial to follow at 10:30 a.m. at Maui Memorial Park.

Tranquilina was a member of the Iglesia Ni Cristo (Church of Christ) and worked as a Luna (Supervisor) at Hawaiian Foliage.

Tranquilina is predeceased by her husband, Felixberto, and son, Tomas. She is survived by her sons, Eduardo(Lydia) Barrientos, Jimmy (Sandra) Barrientos, Ellazar (Nora) Barrientos, Salvador (Dolores) Barrientos, Joseph Barrientos, Balbino (Josephine) Barrientos; daughters, Linda (Glen) Shinozuka, Rebecca (Willie) Cadiz and daughter-in-law, Alicia Barrientos; 19 Grandchildren and 15 Great-Grandchildren.

Elsie Asako Ige, 91, of Wailuku, passed away on Feb. 12, 2017 at Maui Memorial Medical Center surrounded by her loving family. She was born on July 1, 1925 in Wailuku.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, March 3, 2017 at Ballard Family Mortuary, service will begin at 6:30 p.m.

Burial service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at Maui Memorial Park in Wailuku.

She is survived by her children, Edwin (Joanna) Ige, Jr., Jo-Ann (Jeffrey) Kunishige, and Asa Ige; 6 grandchildren, Ikaika, Billie-Jo, Tracee, Ty, Samantha, and Bridgette; 11 great-grandchildren, Kawaiola, Sharai, Cody, Shaylee, Shya, Kanehe, Kawelo, Diesel, Hailani, Gauge, and Rhylee; and 5 great-grand-grandchildren, Kolten, Kaiana, Kysen, Pua’Olena, and Easton.

Elsie was predeceased by her husband, Edwin Ige Sr., and her grandson, Edwin Ige III.

Victor Bantilan Jr.

Victor Bantilan Jr.
August 18, 1958 – February 3, 2017

Victor Bantilan Jr., 58 of Pāʻia, passed away on Feb. 3, 2017 at Maui Memorial Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.

Victor was born on Aug. 18, 1958 to Victor aka Victorino and Josephine Bantilan. He worked as a machinist at H.C. & S, and was later a self-employed computer technician.

He enjoyed playing ukulele, standard/Slack Key Guitar with friends, and he loved Ballroom dancing.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Nora Gascon Bantilan; daughter, Joslyn (Branden) Bantilan; brothers, Spencer and Dennis Bantilan; uncles, aunties and cousins.

A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at Ballards Family Mortuary in Kahului on Saturday, March 4, 2017 with visitation scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.; prayer service at 11 a.m. and burial to follow at 2pm at Maui Memorial Park in Wailuku.
