Critically acclaimed dancer and choreographer Aparna Ramaswamy and her Ragamala Dance Company will present They Rose at Dawn at the
University of Hawai`i at Hilo Performing Arts Center on Tuesday, March 7, at 7:30 p.m.

Under the direction of Ramaswamy and her mother, Ranee Ramaswamy, Ragamala Dance Company’s work explores the dynamic tension between the ancestral and the contemporary through its performances. As

As choreographers and performers, mother and daughter create dance landscapes that dwell in opposition to find the transcendence that lies in between.

They Rose at Dawn is a solo work depicting women as carriers of ritual.

A five-piece Carnatic musical ensemble accompanies Aparna Ramaswamy as she explores the spontaneous interplay between music and movement and the dynamic contours created by the artists.

Reserved seating presale tickets are $30 for general admission, $25 discounted and $15 for UH Hilo/Hawai‘i CC students (with a valid student ID) and for children up to age 17. At the door, tickets are $35, $30 and $20 respectively.
