Four years ago, Lava Lava Beach Club proprietors Eric von Platen Luder and Scott Dodd decided to celebrate the first year anniversary of Lava Lava Beach Club with a giving goal built around the heart of this uniquely beachfront resort.

Feast on the Beach debuted during the 2013 holiday season, combining toes-in-the-sand fun, great food and giving.

Over the past four years, Lava Lava Beach Club’s annual Feast on the Beach has helped raise nearly $130,000 for local charities.

Here’s their winning recipe:

  • First, identify active nonprofit organizations as event partners who receive 50% of event ticket proceeds. Feast on the Beach partners have included Hawaii Island Humane Society, Hospice of Kona, local Rotary Clubs, Waikoloa Canoe Club, Lava Kids, and Kona Community Hospital Foundation.
  • Second, mix in a fun holiday beach party that has become the hottest ticket of the holiday season.
  • Finally, focus on community coming together to support the tremendous work of the nonprofit partners.

“When we launched Feast on the Beach, it was our hope that our event would become a much-anticipated holiday event tradition with a lofty goal of helping worthwhile charities here on Hawai‘i Island raise $20,000,” said LLBC co-owner Scott Dodd. “Four years later, we are thrilled that close to $130,000 has been raised by Hawai‘i Island charities, far beyond our original goal.”

For the inaugural Feast on the Beach in 2013, charities raised $25,0000; in 2014 Feast on the Beach raised $31,500; Feast on the Beach in 2015 raised $37,261 and in 2016, the 4th Annual Feast on the Beach helped raise $36,000. That’s a lot of holiday cheer.
