The annual Kona Surf Film Festival is returning to the Big Island Jan. 28 for the 13th year, bringing films, music, art, food and good company to Kailua-Kona.
The staple community surf event will feature independent short and feature films from both local and global filmmakers, and draws visitors from around the world.
“The Festival is a chance for filmmakers to expose their work to surfers and non surfers alike in a really fun atmosphere. The films are very diverse and really creative, with awesome stories, action and soundtracks,” said Chad Campbell, festival founder and program director.

This year’s featured films will include “The Aloha Project,” “Given,” “Distance Between Dreams,” and a handful of short films. The movies will be accompanied by live music by Ron Artis II, Moni and others, as well as vendors and an art exhibition by local and international artists.
The festival will happen from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. on the beach side of the Marriott King Kamehameha Kona Beach Hotel. Tickets can be purchased online or at the door. Food and beer will be available for purchase, and organizers request that attendees bring beach chairs, blankets, sweatshirts and good vibes.
