Along with protestors across the islands and throughout the country, Hawai’i Academy of Arts and Sciences students in Pāhoa joined together in a peaceful protest event, reported University of Hawai’i at Hilo Associate Professor Marina Karides.
Staging a morning protest outside of the school premises, students marched through the main street of Pāhoa carrying signs.
Students said they were protesting the racially biased, anti-migration and sexist rhetoric of now President Donald Trump throughout his campaign. They were also voicing their concerns about his cabinet nominees.

The marchers were supported with horn honks by parents and community members and applause as they walked through the streets.
The protest concluded at the town’s community center.
