The field is set for the Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualalai, which will kick off the 2017 PGA TOUR Champions season the week of Jan. 16 to 21.

The 51-player field features World Golf Hall of Fame member Bernhard Langer, who won his third consecutive Charles Schwab Cup via the first Charles Schwab Cup Playoffs in 2016.

Langer is joined by 10 additional members of the World Golf Hall of Fame.

The Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualalai includes tournament champions from the 2015 and 2016 seasons, winners of PGA TOUR Champions majors since 2012 and 10 additional invitees based on career PGA TOUR wins and major championship titles.

The field of 51 features 11 current World Golf Hall of Fame members—Fred Couples, Ben Crenshaw, Hale Irwin, Tom Kite, Bernhard Langer, Sandy Lyle, Colin Montgomerie, Larry Nelson, Mark O’Meara, Vijay Singh and Tom Watson.

The championship will also include  nine players who have won the Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualalai since the event moved to Hualalai Golf Course in 1997—Duffy Waldorf (2016), Miguel Angel Jimenez (2015), Langer (2014, 2009), Fred Funk (2008), Irwin (2007, 1997), Loren Roberts (2006), Watson (2010), Kite (2002) and Nelson (2001).

American Waldorf returns to defend his 2016 title. He rolled in a 25-foot birdie putt on the 54th hole to defeat Tom Lehman by one stroke for his second win on PGA TOUR Champions. Waldorf did not record a bogey in the event and became the ninth player to win the Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualalai in his first appearance.

Langer, a 2002 World Golf Hall of Fame inductee, is two months removed from wrapping up yet another dominant season on PGA TOUR Champions, highlighted by his third consecutive Charles Schwab Cup.

The two-time masters champion finished no worse than T13 at any event during the season and recorded victories at the Regions Tradition and the Constellation SENIOR PLAYERS Championship—two of five major championships on PGA TOUR Champions—as well as the Chubb Classic and Boeing Classic on his way to claiming the fourth Charles Schwab Cup of his storied PGA TOUR Champions career.

The week will mark Langer’s 10th career start at the Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualalai, where he earned the aforementioned wins in 2009 and 2014, as well as top-five finishes in 2008, 2013 and 2015.

Montgomerie and Miguel Angel Jimenez, who finished second and sixth in the Charles Schwab Cup last season are two other players to watch at Hualalai.

Montgomerie, who was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2013, posted a T5 in his Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualalai debut in 2015. Montgomerie has finished runner-up in the final Charles Schwab Cup standings to Langer in each of the last three seasons.

Jimenez won at Hualalai in 2015 and has recorded a win in each of his first three seasons on PGA TOUR Champions. In 2016, he won the Mississippi Gulf Resort Classic presented by C Spire and posted four runner-up finishes

This year’s Mitsubishi Electric Championship field will include 10 players who will be making their debuts at Hualalai, highlighted by David Toms, who will be making his first start on PGA TOUR Champions. Toms turned 50 on Jan. 4, making him eligible for PGA TOUR Champions. Toms won 13 times on the PGA TOUR, including the 2001 PGA Championship.
