Rose Elizabeth Rapoza, 82, of Mt. View, passed away on Monday, Sept. 26, 2016 at home. Rose was born on Dec. 16, 1933, in Keaʻau. She was a retired LPN. Memorial Service to be held at Ballard Family Mortuary- Hilo (570 Kinoʻole St. Hilo, HI 96720) on Sunday, Oct. 2, 2016.

Visitation starts at 3 p.m. Services start at 4 p.m. She is preceded in death by her son Kevin Rapoza. She is survived by her sons Melvin (Helen) Rapoza of O’ahu, Kelly (Roberta) Rapoza of Hawaiʻi and Alan (Mandy) Rapoza of California; daughters Laura (Tracy) Lishman of Mt. View and Alana Rapoza-Caygill of Wisconsin; brother Wilford Ah Yo of Washington; sister Marilyn Ah Yo of California; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. Sarah Goodwin Thurber, 30, of Kamuela, Hawaiʻi, was born in Carlsbad, California, on May 30, 1986, and passed away on Sept. 15, 2016. Sarah owned and operated Mermaid Cleaning Services of Kailua-Kona.
She is survived by mother Deborah Goodwin of Kailua-Kona; father Marshall Thurber of Heber City, Utah; son James Jeffrey Thurber, and daughter Natasha Rose Lofland of Kona.

Kele Bradley Samoy Smith, 23, born and raised in Kailua-Kona, Hawaiʻi. Born on Nov. 14, 1992 at Kona Hospital and passed away on Sept. 13, 2016. Kele was an avid skateboard enthusiast, Certified Life Guard and Sushi Chef.

He is survived by his parents, Bradley and Michele Smith of Kailua-Kona; paternal grandfather, Toribio Samoy of Waikoloa, maternal grandmother, Lorraine “Bit: Shaw of Florida; brothers Keoni T. Domingo Felix Ganoy, 88, of Lahaina, passed away on Sept. 19, 2016, at Maui Memorial Medical Center. He was born on April 23, 1928, in Suyo, Dingras, Ilocos Norte, Philippines.

Visitation will be held on Friday, Sept. 30, 2016, at Maria Lanakila Catholic Church; mass will begin at 8 p.m. Visitation will also be held from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 1, 2016, at Norman’s Mortuary; prayer service will begin at 11:30 a.m.; burial will follow, 12:30 p.m., at Maui Memorial Park Cemetery in Wailuku.
Domingo retired from Pioneer Mill. He was predeceased by his wife, Martina Ganoy, and daughter, Gloria Pidlaoan. He is survived by his sons, Rogelio (Marilou) Ganoy, Lauren (Trinidad) Ganoy, Arsenio Ganoy; daughters, Nieves Vergara, Mina (Andres) Alamon, Elena (Christopher) Breckels, Teresita (Alvin) Panlasigue; brother, Jose (Vicenta) Ganoy; sister, Maria (Generoso) Comillas; 18 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.

Milton Satoru Sugiki, 62, of Kahului, passed away on Sept. 23, 2016 at his residence. He was born in Wailuku on March 18, 1954.
Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 9, 2016 at Wailuku Hongwanji Mission, services will begin at 11 a.m.
Milton was the owner of MCL Plastering Company.
He is survived by his daughter, Lee Ann (Dominic) Agabin; brother, Myron (Nancy) Sugiki; uncles, Kazuo (Toshiko) Sugiki, Alan (Yurino) Sugiki, and Dr. Shigemi Sugiki; and 2 grandchildren.

Bryant “Charlie Tuna” Rude
September 18, 1948 – September 17, 2016

Bryant Rude of Pāʻia, universally known as “Charlie Tuna”, died Sept. 17, 2016 at Maui Memorial Medical Center. He was born Sept. 18, 1948 in Santa Ana, California. His parents, Alan Grant Rude and Betty Louis Yates Rude, preceded him in death.
He served in the United States Army, receiving an Honorable Discharge in 1970. Charlie was an adventurous man who traveled extensively in Europe. An experienced sailor, he worked on sailboats that went from the Mainland to Maui and back three times, as well as many islands in the South Pacific.
For more than twenty years, Charlie was employed by Charley’s Restaurant in Pāʻia. He was also the caretaker of the restaurant’s Great Dane Mascots.
Charlie is survived by his sister Janet Rude of Napa, California and his final Great Dane, Sonny Boy.
Spreading of ashes will take place at Hoʻokipa Beach Park on Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2016. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the American Cancer Society on Maui.

Elsie Yoshiko Tamaki

Elsie Yoshiko Tamaki, 91, of Kahului, passed away on Sept. 14, 2016 at Maui Memorial Medical Center. She was born on Feb. 23, 1925 in Waiehu, Maui.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, Oct. 15, 2016 at Ballard Family Mortuary, Kahului.
Visitation will be at 10 a.m. and service to begin at 11 a.m.
Elsie retired from Takamiya Market.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Robert Hitoshi Tamaki. Elsie is survived by son, Wayne (Jayme) Tamaki; daughter, Gayle (David) Kama; grandson, Chayse Tamaki; brothers, Kenneth (Doris) Takamiya and James (Suzanne) Takamiya; sisters, Mildred Shimabuku and Maxine Oshiro.
The Tamaki family acknowledges with great appreciation the staff of Hale Makua Kahului and the North Unit for the care given to Elsie. The family requests no flowers.
