Notebooks, backpacks, pens, crayons and dozens of other school supplies are urgently needed for thousands of Hawai‘i Island keiki as a new school year begins.

Hawaii Community Federal Credit Union and Kākoʻo I Nā Keiki (Support the Children) are asking Hawai‘i Island residents to drop off donated items at any HCFCU branch (see locations below) by Wednesday, July 27.

Last year, more than 10,000 students in 35 schools around the island received these essential supplies, which helped get their education started on the right foot.

For more than five years, HCFCU has supported Hawaii Island United Way and KAPA Radio’s Kākoʻo I Nā Keiki year-round efforts to assist Hawaii Island keiki in need.

“As a mother of two, I know the cost of school supplies very well,” said Tricia Buskirk, HCFCU president/CEO. “I’m reminded of my children’s first day of school and their excitement to have new notebooks, backpacks and crayons. Hawaii Community Federal Credit Union wants to do its part to add smiles to the faces of as many keiki as possible.”

The goals for the three annual Kākoʻo I Nā Keiki events—Slippah Drive (February–March), School Supply Drive (July) and Food Drive (November–December)—are to foster successful keiki education, health and opportunities.
