Volcano Art Center will host a hands-on immersion for foragers and foodies at its Edible Wild Plants workshop with instructor Zach Mermel of Ola Design Group.

Mermel will take workshop goers on a journey through food that’s right outside.

Hawai’i’s year-round growing season offers a wide array of wild food options for intrepid localvores.

From seeds to leaves, stems to fruits, Mermel will teach what is edible and what is not. Participants will interact first-hand with many of the under-appreciated edibles, and will also prepare a number of wild food dishes.

The public should never eat anything from the wild without first consulting an expert.

The workshop will be held on Saturday, May 21,from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at VAC’s Niaulani Campus in Volcano Village.
