Kona Historical Society Recipient of $150K State Grant
The Kona Historical Society has been awarded $150,000 in grant funds from the State of Hawai’i to support its “Kona Museum” Cultural and Community Programming Project.
Funds from the grant will allow the Kona Historical Society, a non-profit organization, to facilitate unique programming and special events for the public in West Hawai’i.
The society hopes to increase exhibits, oral history, research projects, film projects, workshops, lectures, educational content, and cultural benefits.
Once the Kona Historical Society completes its Kona Museum Gallery, additional exhibits are anticipated to take place there.
“This is a thrilling award for Kona Historical Society because it means we will be providing this community with a cultural resource and through our new venue be able to share exhibits, films, research, and stories in a much more accessible way,” said Executive Director Joy Holland. “The State of Hawai’i has really invested in the cultural life of this community with this award. We are so grateful.”
