The University of Hawai’i at Hilo athletic department recognized its graduating seniors and outstanding athletes on Monday night at the school’s annual Vulcans Awards Banquet.

Topping the list of student-athletes to receive recognition was Salim Gloyd and Bailey Gaspar, named the school’s Athletes of the Year.

Gloyd, who played for one year on the men’s basketball team, was named to the All-PacWest First Team and was awarded the PacWest Newcomer of the Year honor. He averaged a conference-leading 22.9 points per game and grabbed 8.6 rebounds per contest.

Gaspar, a sophomore softball player from Vancouver, Wash., led the PacWest conference with a .506 batting average and .807 slugging percentage. She was named the conference’s Newcomer of the Week on Feb. 29.

Softball was recognized with the Ramon Goya Team of the Year award, posting a 32-17 overall record and 21-9 conference mark.
