Matchups are set for this week’s Big Island Interscholastic Federation softball championship series in Division I and Division II.

Waiakea and Kealakehe, the top two teams in Division I, will meet to determine the overall BIIF regular season champion. Both teams split the season series, but Waiakea earned the top seed based on run differential.

Kealakehe needed all three games to get past Hilo in the semifinals, knocking off the Vikings 12-9 on Monday at Old Airport Park. The Waveriders won the first game of the series with Hilo, but lost the second, forcing the key third game. Waiakea, meanwhile, swept past Kea’au in its semifinal series.

In Division II, Kohala will face regular season champion Kamehameha-Hawai’i to earn the top BIIF seed in next month’s state tournament. Both teams swept through the semifinals, with the Warriors cruising past Konawaena and the Cowgirls defeating Honoka’a.

Additionally, a one-game series will determine the third and final berth in Division II. Honoka’a will host Konawaena on Thursday at 3 p.m.

The Datahouse/Hawai’i High School Athletic Association State Softball Championships will be held on two different islands. O’ahu will host the Division I tournament from May 10-13, while Maui will host the Division II event from May 11-14.
