Chief Justice Seeks Public Comment on Judicial Nominees

court, gavel PIXABAYPublic comment is currently being sought on judicial nominees for a vacancy in the District Court of the Third Circuit on the Big Island.

The Honorable Barbara T. Takase will being retiring and the position will need to be filled.

Names submitted by the Judicial Selection Commission for the vacancy include Kevin S. Hashizaki, Peter K. Kubota, Michelle K. Laubach, Laureen L. Martin, Darien W.L.C. Nagata, and Jeffrey W.S. Ng.

The Chief Justice has the discretion to assign judges to the district and the district family court calendar.

Members of the public who wish to submit comments regarding the qualifications and character of any of the nominees can e-mail [email protected], send a fax to (808) 539-4703, or write to: Chief Justice Mark E. Recktenwald, Supreme Court of Hawai’i, 417 South King Street, Honolulu, HI  96813.

Comments must be post-marked, e-mailed, faxed, or hand delivered no later than Monday, March 28.

The individual selected by the Chief Justice is subject to Senate confirmation.
