Road and lane closures on the Big Island continue through the weekend at various locations.

Road work projects will continue over the weekend at the Umauma Bridge and the Pahoa Roundabout, causing both areas to remain under a 24-hour single lane closure.

The Umauma Bridge, which is located near mile marker 16 on Highway 19, is undergoing bridge rehabilitation. Speed on the bridge is reduced to 20 miles per hour.

In Pahoa, the Keaau-Pahoa Bypass Road in both directions, between Pahoa Marketplace and Kahakai Boulevard, is closed for the construction of the Pahoa Roundabout. Temporary traffic signals are installed to direct traffic at the Kahakai Boulevard and Pahoa Village Road intersection. Motorists are advised to drive through the detour with caution.

The Hawai’i County Department of Public Works also notes continued reconstruction work on Komohana Street, from Kukuau Street towards Waianuenue Avenue. The project involves the reconstruction of about 4,000 feet of roadway, traffic signal upgrades, pavement striping, and the replacement of utility valves and boxes. A portion of the roadway was under a single lane closure, but has since been opened up to narrow two-way traffic.

Also, a portion of Manono Street is closed from Leilani Street to Kekuanaoa Street until March 18. The area is under a 24-hour closure for the first phase of grading and pavement work. Only local residents are allowed access to the area, and other motorists are asked to use alternate routes on Mililani Street and Hinano Street.

All lane closures and detours are weather permitting and have the possibility of changing without notice.
