March HVNP Flight Operations Schedule

Helicopter operations during the month of March within Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park have been announced. The operations will be conducted for various tasks and on different days.

Below, you will find the upcoming flight dates, times, and their purposes:

March 11, 21, and 25, between 7 a.m. and 12 p.m., to shuttle crew, camp supplies, fencing material, and equipment to Mauna Loa at about the 9,000-foot elevation.

March 23, between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m., for fountain grass monitoring and control below Kamo‘oali‘i and at Kue‘e.

March 25, between 12 p.m. and 5 p.m., near Kilauea summit for helicopter crew training.

Park management requires the use of aircraft to monitor and research volcanic activity and conduct search-and-rescue missions, as well as law enforcement operations, support management of natural and cultural resources, and maintaining backcountry facilities.
