New ownership also means a new name for Uncle Billy’s Hilo Bay Hotel.

The hotel was recently acquired by Peter Savio, a Honolulu-based developer, after the hotel’s lease under its previous owner was set to expire.

On Friday the State of Hawai’i Board of Land and Natural Resources approved the transfer of the land lease, and the new management will take over on a month-to-month basis, per the lease’s terms.

The 145-room hotel will be renamed the Pagoda Hilo Bay Hotel, managed by Castle Resorts & Hotels, as of midnight Saturday

“For all intents and purposes, it will be business as usual at the property,” said Savio. “We don’t anticipate making any staffing changes at this time, and all reservations on the books will be honored. We also look forward to maintaining the local traditions established by Uncle Billy.”
