The Hawai’i Police Department reports that Highway 190 is now closed from Kaiminani Road to Waikoloa Road; and from Daniel K. Inouye to the Old Saddle Road Junction.

The Hawai’i Police Department reports that three brush fires have closed portions of Highway 190.

Assistant Fire Chief Gantry Andrade told Big Island Now that the first brush fire was located at the 49-mile marker of the Daniel K. Inouye Highway.

There are also two brush fires along Highway 190 near the 16 and 17 mile markers. Those fires have burned an approximate total of 150-200 acres. According to Andrade, none of the fires are under control.

HPD says that the road closure runs from the 17 mile marker to the Saddle Road Junction. There is also closure at the intersection of Highway 190 and Kaiminani Drive.

Motorists are being asked to use Waikoloa Road and Kaiminani Drive as detours around the area.
