HFD Extinguishes Brush Fire in Honaunau

Hawai’i County Fire Department fire fighters extinguished a brush fire Monday afternoon above Highway 11 in Honaunau.

The fire, according to Assistant Batallion Chief Ty Medeiros, was reported at approximately 2 p.m. It was located just off of Telephone Exchange Road, about a quarter-acre was burned in the blaze.

Chief Medeiros told Big Island Now that the fire was under control at about 2:30 p.m., and the scene was cleared two hours later.

As a result of the search for a missing swimmer in Keauhou, fire fighters from the Captain Cook station responded to the fire. A volunteer company from Kailua assisted in putting the fire out.
