Applications Being Accepted for Akamai Internship Program

Applications for the Akamai Workforce Initiative are being accepted.

The program works to provide Hawai’i college students the opportunity to advance themselves into science and technology careers through its summer internship program.

Community college students and undergraduates attending college in Hawai’i are eligible for the internship. Students from Hawai’i studying on the mainland are also eligible.

The program matches each student with a mentor and is integrated into the member’s group with daily guidance.

Applications for the program are due on Sunday, Feb. 14, and the internships take place from June 12 through Aug. 12.

Akamai supports the workforce of the existing observatories and other related projects in Hawai’i by providing support to students over a range of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics fields.

Three-hundred interns have gone through the program, and over 100 of the alumni are working in STEM-related jobs.

A large portion of funding for the program comes from the Thirty Meter Telescope International Observatory and the Air Force Office of Scientific Research, as well as from the National Solar Observatory/DKIST and the National Science Foundation Astronomical Sciences.
