South Korean Man Arrested on Suspicion of Attempted Murder

badge 123The Hawai’i Police Department has arrested a South Korean man following a stabbing that took place at a resort along the South Kohala coast.

On Wednesday morning at 8:12 a.m., South Kohala District officers responded to a report of a domestic dispute and possible stabbing in a hotel room on the 62-100 block of Kaunaoa Drive.

Upon arrival, officers found a 52-year-old man being taken by Hawai’i County Fire Department personnel to North Hawai’i Community Hospital. The victim reportedly had puncture wounds to his chest and thigh.

Authorities say the suspect, identified as 59-year-old Kyong Sun Yoo of Yuseong Gu, South Korea, confronted the victim while he was in the room with a woman known to the suspect.

Yoo was arrested at the scene on suspicion of attempted murder and abuse of a family/household member.

After the arrest, Yoo was taken to North Hawai’i Community Hospital, where he was treated for injuries to his left hand. After being released from the hospital, he was taken to the Kona police cellblock.

A 52-year-old woman from South Korea was also taken to the hospital. She was treated for a head injury and then released.

The male victim remains in the hospital in stable condition.

An investigation into the incident continues by Detectives from the Criminal Investigation Division.
