Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “South Pacific” is the Aloha Performing Arts Company’s next production.
The company will host open auditions for various roles on Monday, Dec. 14 and Tuesday, Dec. 15 at 6 p.m. at Aloha Theatre in Kainaliu.
“South Pacific” follows two parallel love stories that were threatened by the dangers and prejudice of World War II.
Auditions for a singing role must include 16 bars, or about one minute of a song. Sheet music for songs from “South Pacific” will be available and an accompanist will be provided.

Roles available for auditions include the following:
Ngana, Eurasian girl, about age 11
Jerome, Eurasian boy, about age 8
Ensign Nellie Forbush, young Navy nurse from Arkansas
Emile DeBecque, distinguished Fresh planter, age 40-60
Bloody Mary, wily, funny, tough Tonkinese woman, age 30-60
Luther Billis, 20’s-30’s, comic soldier
Lt. Joe Cable, 20’s-30’s, romantic lead
Liat, Tonkinese girl, non-singing, Joe’s love interest, about age 17
A male chorus of soldiers and sailors, a female chorus of nurses, and several non-singing and non-speaking roles are also available.
Rehearsals for the show will begin on Dec. 27 and include Sunday afternoons and Monday through Thursday evenings.

The show will run for five weekends with performances on Friday and Saturday nights and Sunday afternoons in Mid-February to Mid-March.
APAC is also seeking backstage helpers, make-up and hair artists, seamstresses, set builders, set painters, concession workers, and ushers. Individuals who wish to participate in any of these roles should attend the auditions and fill out a registration form.
If necessary, an invitational call-back audition may be held on Wednesday, Dec. 16 at 6 p.m.
