Reconstruction work on Komohana Street in the area between Kukuau Street and Waianuenue Avenue in Hilo is underway.

Officials from the Hawai’i County Department of Public Works say that the contractor, Yamada and Sons, Inc., will work on the project Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with the exclusion of holidays.

About 4,000 feet of roadway will be worked on. Traffic signal upgrades, pavement striping, and the replacement of utility valves and boxes will be done.

Work is expected to be completed by Feb. 22, 2016, however, weather and construction conditions can affect the timeline.

Motorists driving along the roadway should drive with caution and expect delays as heavy vehicles and machinery will be in the work zone.

During the project, traffic may be limited to one lane at various points.
