Big Island Weekend Forecast Uncertain

A High Surf Advisory is posted for the windward side of the Big Island through 6 a.m. Sunday. Expect strong breaking waves, shore break and strong longshore and rip currents making swimming difficult and dangerous.

A Marine Weather Statement has been issued for  harbor surges expected in Hilo harbor. Large breaking waves could occur at harbor entrances. Mariners should use extreme caution when entering or leaving port and when mooring or launching vessels.

A Small Craft Advisory is posted for all Big Island water through 6 a.m. Sunday. East winds up to 25 knots and seas up to 12 feet are expected. Inexperienced mariners should avoid navigating in these conditions.

Looking Ahead

Breezy and gusty trades will continue during the next several days. Increasing tropical moisture is expected from the south and a wetter weather pattern is forecast for the weekend. Best chances of rain will be for the eastern half of the island chain with slight chances of thunderstorms for the Big Island late Saturday and Sunday.

Today 

Today we expect partly cloudy skies with scattered morning showers for windward and mauka spots. In the afternoon shower coverage is expected to increase. The Kona side is forecast to be clear in the morning with building clouds and scattered showers in the afternoon. High temperatures from 84° to 89°. East winds are forecast from 15 to 20 mph.

Tonight

East winds are expected in the evening around 15 mph. Low temperatures from 72° to 77°. Mostly cloudy skies are expected in the evening with frequent showers for windward areas and a slight chance of thunderstorms. Scattered showers are expected in leeward spots.
