The Kamehameha Avenue project is almost finished.

Barett Otani,
information and education specialist for the Hawai’i County Department of Public Works, said the project is scheduled to be finished next month, weather and construction conditions permitting.

“The contractor is currently working on the final phase of the project, which is striping the roadway, and traffic signal phasing and programming at the Pauahi Street and Kamehameha Avenue intersection,” he said.

The project started in February of last year and was given to Isemoto Contracting, Co. The construction contract went for $13.2 million, and Otani said they’re currently within budget.

Work on the road consisted of approximately three-fourths of a mile of roadway reconstruction along Kamehameha Avenue, including the construction of Americans with Disabilities Act compliant sidewalks, curb ramps, and driveways. Construction also included upgrades to the traffic signals and new LED street lights, roadway drainage system, signing, striping, and other related improvements.
