Kaeo Drummondo and Lisa Pana will share the head coaching duties on the Hilo High School football team while the status of head coach David Baldwin is under review.

Hilo High School athletic director Kurt Kawachi made the announcement Monday afternoon in front of the team.

“Due to the difficult situation and the timeliness of the matter, it has been determined that we are going with interim co-head coaches for the time being. Kaeo Drummondo and Lisa Pana will be sharing the head coach duties while Coach Baldwin is on leave,” said Kawachi in a statement to Big Island Now.

“Coach Pana will prepare, plan, and organize the necessary operational tasks for the team and Coach Drummondo will assume the situational/strategy game assignments,” Kawachi explained.

Kawachi told Big Island Now Monday that Baldwin had been placed on leave since Aug. 5 for an undisclosed incident. Baldwin could not be reached for comment, and neither could Hilo principal Robert Dircks.

Drumundo has been Hilo’s defensive coordinator on Baldwin’s staff. Pana, meanwhile, has served on Baldwin’s staff as his right-hand person, taking care of many duties, including administrative responsibilities.

Hilo is still scheduled to travel to Punahou on Saturday at 2 p.m. The game has been picked up for broadcast by ESPN Radio affiliates AM 850 in Hilo and AM 790 in Kona.
