Residents are now able to register to vote online.

Officials from the Office of Elections and the Office of the City/County Clerks made the announcement Tuesday.

According to officials, the online system was built to ensure that only individuals with verifiable identification could register. The system will only be available to residents with a valid Hawai’i driver’s license or state identification card.

Another feature of the system allows voters to request a permanent absentee ballot.

Those who do not meet the requirements to register online can still register to vote through a paper application.

Individuals can register to vote online or register for a Voter Registration and Permanent Absentee Application by visiting the Office of Elections’ website.
