Kaipalaoa Landing, a historic site and well-known Hilo surf spot, will be getting a boost with the help of a group of surfers and community members. Malama Kaipalaoa, led by Stan Lawrence, has been the stewards of the area since 2009.

The crew will provide assistance in repairing rock walls that have been damaged and restoring eroded areas at the park, which was transferred from the state to the County of Hawai’i in 2013. Also included in the plans is the installation of grass and pavers, along with an accessible walkway, showers, and picnic tables.

Ron Terry from Geometrician Associated, along with David Imats of Imata & Associates, and Leonard Bisel and Meredith Komata, both of B+K Design Group, created the design and planning for the site.

The project is scheduled to be completed by December 2015 and will result in $349,000 in improvements.
