Two individuals suffered injuries after being located by the Hawai’i County Fire Department in fresh water beneath the Piihonua Bridge Thursday afternoon.

HFD officials report that the pair, a man and a woman, suffered injuries and were unable to get themselves out of the rapid moving water below waterfalls just after 2 p.m.

Eleven firefighters responded to the scene where they rescued the two using a Billy Pugh net.

Both individuals were taken to Hilo Medical Center where they were treated and reported to be in stable condition.
