Kona Brush Fire 95 Percent Contained

The brush fire that began Saturday and is burning in the Kona Palisades and Kona Acres subdivision area off of Kaiminani Drive area is 95 percent contained, according to the Hawai’i County Fire Department.

Hawai’i County Fire personnel worked throughout the night and continue to work on extinguishing the fire and mopping up hot spots and flare ups.

Throughout the duration of the fire, no homes or property was threatened and no evacuations took place.

Smoke conditions in the area have the possibility of changing as fire and wind conditions change. Authorities advise that residents of the area plan accordingly and remain indoors.

Motorists are asked to avoid the area by using alternate routes, and to be aware of fire vehicles and personnel in the area.
