Two temporary water shut-offs are planned along Kamehameha Avenue in Hilo this week.

On Thursday, June 4, the Department of Water Supply says water will be turned off in the area between Pauahi Street and Kumu Street, the road leading to the Kamehameha Statue at Wailoa State Park, between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. as construction work, part of the Kamehameha Avenue Reconstruction Project, continues.

In the same area on Friday, June 5, water will be shut off between 8:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. as a hydrant valve is replaced.

When water service is reestablished on both of these days, waterlines will be cleaned and flushed. Customers in the affected areas may experience turbid or discolored water following the flushing. Trapped air may also be noticed, but will dissipate as water is used.

Customers are advised to take necessary precautions in order to protect their property, including property and facilities that are dependent on water or water pressure.

Questions should be directed to District Supervisor Carl Nishimura at 961-8790.
