HHCDC: TMT, Mauna Kea Common Ground Events

A series of events will be hosted by the Hilo-Hamakua Community Development Corporation. According to HHCDC the four events, part of a series titled “TMT and Mauna Kea: Common Ground,” will provide the community an opportunity to learn more about the Thirty Meter Telescope.

The series falls under HHCDC’s goal to provide information to the community it serves, north of the singing bridge in Hilo to Waipi’o Valley.

“TMT and Mauna Kea: Common Ground” events are scheduled as follows:

Tuesday, May 19 at Laupahoehoe Community Public Charter School Cafeteria from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Guest speakers will include Lanakila, cultural perspective; Paul Coleman, science; and Stephanie Nagata, Office of Mauna Kea Management Process.

Wednesday, May 27 at Kulaimano Community Center from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Guest speakers will include Paul Neves, Cultural and Historical Perspective; Sandra Dawson, Thirty Meter Telescope Process; and Peter Adler, Sacred Spaces.

Tuesday, June 2 at Laupahoehoe Community Public Charter School Cafeteria at 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Guest speakers will include Hualalai Keohuloa, cultural perspective; Wallace Ishibashi, Security and Safety at Cultural Sites; and Paul Brewbaker, economy.

Tuesday, June 9 at Laupahoehoe Community Public Charter School Cafeteria at 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Guest speakers include Richard Ha, Hawai’i island’s future; Art Kimura, robotics; Jesse Eiben, entomologist; Doug Simons, observatory science.
