The Civil Defense has released an update on the Green Sands brushfire in Ka‘u as of 4 p.m., Tuesday, May 12.

Hawai‘i Fire Department personnel report that the fire continues to burn, but is roughly 80% contained.  Fire and emergency personnel are working to extinguish the fire and will remain on-scene throughout the night.

All major highways and roadways are open, however some roads within the Green Sands subdivision may be limited to local traffic only.

Because of damage sustained to residential water systems in the area, water tankers will be providing potable and non-potable water at the Green Sand’s Park from 4:30 p.m. – 7 p.m, today (May 12).  The Waiahinu water spigot is also open and available as a water resource.
