The County of Hawai’i Department of Public Works has announced the installation of traffic and pedestrian control devices along Kawaihae Road beginning Monday, May 11 as part of the Waimea Safety Project.

Weather permitting, the installation is scheduled to last two weeks between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

During the construction, County Traffic Division road crews will install the devices along Kawaihae Road from Waimea Park to Parker Square, a total distance of about 1,000 feet.

The work is expected to be conducted out of the roadway but it is likely that the lifting of equipment may cause temporary periods of work over the roadway. During the brief periods of roadway interruption, the Hawai’i Police Department will direct traffic.
