The Hawai‘i Department of Agriculture (HDOA) has posted data online outlining restricted-use pesticides (RUP) sales in the State of Hawai‘i for 2014.

The HDOA’s online report is required by Act 105, passed during the 2013 legislative session.  Legal issues regarding confidential business and personal information have delayed posting all results and are in the process of being resolved.  HDOA will continue to post additional information as the issues are cleared.

The data is reported by County for the total amount of RUPs sold every month in pounds of active ingredients.

RUP’s are pesticides that can only be used by certified pesticide applicators or under direct supervision of someone who is certified.

Vendors of RUP products must be annually licensed, and keep records detailing sales, distribution, delivery, theft, spill, or other activities affecting inventory levels.  Authorized dealers must also be licensed with an RUP licensed dealer representative.  In addition, RUP’s may only be sold to certified pesticide applicators.  Certification requires passing a written test.

The online report excludes RUP sales for Structural Pest Control, as exempted under Section 149A-31.2(a) of the Hawaii Revised Statutes.
