A Small Craft Advisory is in effect through Monday at 6:00 p.m. for the Alenuihaha channel and waters to the south and west of the Big Island. Rough seas from 6 to 12 feet are expected along with east winds of 20 to 25 knots. Inexperienced mariners should avoid navigating in these conditions.

Hilo side: Belly to shoulder high waves are expected today with some plusses at the best breaks open to the swell.

Kona side: Wave heights of knee to waist high are expected. Standout spots could get larger waves on the sets.

South: Wave heights of knee to waist high are expected. The best breaks could see wave heights up to chest high on the sets.

A small north-northwest swell is expected midweek, with a small west-northwest possible for the weekend.

Our current small south-southeast is expected to slowly taper off over the next few days. A small south-southwest swell is possible for the weekend but still pending storm development.

Keep in mind, surf heights are measured on the face of the wave from trough to crest. Heights vary from beach to beach, and at the same beach, from break to break.
