Restaurants at the Volcano House lodge in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park have closed for at least two days following a kitchen fire that hospitalized a hotel employee Tuesday morning, March 24.

Park rangers, county medics, and firefighters responded to a fire alarm and calls to park dispatch around 10:30 a.m.  A 42-year-old man was taken to the hospital with burns to his upper arms.

The restaurants, The Rim and Uncle George’s Lounge, will be temporarily closed while investigators determine the cause of the fire, according to the lodge’s General Manager, David Macilwraith.  Both restaurants are anticipated to reopen Thursday, and the Volcano House hotel is remaining open as usual.
