A Small Craft Advisory is posted for the ʻAlenuihāhā channel as well as waters to the south and west of the Big Island. The advisory is through 6:00 a.m. Saturday for north winds from 20 to 25 knots and rough seas  of 7 to 12 feet. Inexperienced mariners should avoid navigating in these conditions.

A Wind Advisory is posted for the summits of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa for 25 to 50 mph winds with gusts over 60 mph at times. Winds may increase to warning levels Saturday. This may make driving difficult. The advisory is posted through 6:00 p.m. Saturday. At last check the road to the summit was closed to the general public.

Partly to mostly cloudy skies are expected today for windward areas with scattered showers during the day. Mostly clear skies are in the forecast for leeward areas in the morning with just isolated showers as clouds build in the afternoon. North winds are forecasted from 15 to 20 mph with higher gusts. High temperatures from 77° to 82°.

Tonight

Mostly cloudy skies are expected with scattered showers for windward spots and isolated showers and partly cloudy skies for lee areas. Cool north winds are forecasted from 15 to 20 mph with higher gusts. Low temperatures from 65° to 70° are expected.

 

Looking Ahead

Cool and breezy northeast trade winds are expected through Saturday providing cooler than normal temperatures statewide. Stable conditions will focus showers over the windward slopes into the weekend. Enhanced moisture will linger just south of the state and may bring increasing showers to Maui and the Big Island late Sunday and Monday. Northeast winds are expected to weaken Sunday and turn north Monday.
