Criminal Property Damage Charge Included in Church Arson

The Hawai’i Police Department has added an additional charge to Captain Cook man Richard Paul Read’s Wednesday charge.

Read, who police believe was involved in the arson at Seventh Day Adventist church on the morning on Feb. 26 was charged with first-degree arson in addition to one count of first-degree criminal property damage. Both of these charges were made at 2 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon.

Read continues to remain at the Kona police cellblock, with bail set at $15,000. His first court appearance is scheduled for Thursday.
