HPD Weekly DUI Statistical Breakdown

Twenty-one motorists were arrested on Big Island roadways between Feb. 23 and March 1. Of the 21 arrests, five were involved in traffic crashes and one was under the age of 21.  These numbers come from the Hawai’i Police Departments weekly statistical report.

The DUI arrest number so far in 2015 has lowered by 23.8 percent since 2014. A total of 160 DUI arrests have been made this year, compared to 210 last year.

Major accidents have also decreased, as 219 major accidents have occurred on Big Island roadways this year, compared to 291 during the same time last year, a decrease of 24.7 percent.

Five traffic fatalities have occurred on the Big Island in 2015, compared to three during the same time in 2014. Traffic fatalities have increased by 66.7 percent. Of the five fatalities, one was due to drugs.

Police will continue island-wide patrols and DUI roadblocks.
