HPD Weekly DUI Statistical Breakdown

Twelve motorists were arrested on Big Island roadways between Feb. 9 and Feb. 15 for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Three of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. These statistics come from the Hawai’i Police Department’s weekly DUI statistical report.

In 2015, there have been 118 DUI arrests, compared to 164 that occurred during the same time period in 2014, a decrease of 28 percent.

A decrease of 24.4 percent was seen in major accidents on roadways. There have been 155 major accidents this year, compared to 205 at this time last year.

Four traffic fatalities have occurred so far in 2015, compared to three at this time in 2014, an increase of 33.3 percent. One of the four fatalities was related to drugs.

Police will continue DUI roadblocks and patrols throughout the island.
