HPD Weekly DUI Statistical Breakdown

Twenty motorists were arrested on Big Island roadways for driving under the influence of an intoxicant during the week of Feb. 2 through Feb. 8. Four of the drivers arrested were involved in traffic crashes and two were under the age of 21. The data comes from the Hawai’i Police Department’s weekly DUI statistical report.

So far in 2015, police have arrested 106 individuals for DUI, a 25.9 percent decrease from 2014 when 143 DUI arrests had taken place during the same time.

Major accidents remain down by 27.4 percent. So far this year, 122 major accidents have occurred on Big Island roadways, compared to 168 at the same time last year.

One traffic fatality has occurred this year, compared with three during the same time period last year, a decrease of 66.7 percent. Police say the fatality that occurred this year was related to drugs.
