HPD Weekly DUI Statistical Breakdown

Twenty-three motorists have been arrested for driving under the influence on Big Island roadways between Jan. 19 and Jan. 25, according to the Hawai’i Police Department’s weekly statistical update. Six of the drivers were involved in traffic crash and one was under the age of 21.

The DUI arrest number continues to remain down so far this year with an overall decrease of 23.5 percent. Seventy-five arrests have been made, compared to 98 during the same period in 2014.

A decrease of 43 percent has been seen in major accidents this year. So far in 2015, 59 major accidents have occurred while 103 occurred during the same time last year.

Only one traffic fatality has occurred on Big Island roadways. This compares to three that happened last year, showing an overall decrease of 66.6 percent.

Police will continue to patrol and conduct roadblocks throughout the island.
