Steam Release Reported at Puna Geothermal Venture

Hawai’i County Civil Defense says that a steam release was reported at Puna Geothermal Venture’s re-injection system.

The incident happened at approximately 7:30 a.m. and lasted for about a minute. Civil Defense Administrator Darryl Oliveira said in a message that no hydrogen sulfide was reported to have been released.

Emergency crews are investigating the situation. No evacuations are necessary, according to Oliveira.

Puna Geothermal Venture officials could not be reached for comment.
