State, county, and certain private non-profit organization with eligible costs associated with the June 27 lava flow have until Dec. 3 to submit applications for the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Public Assistance program.

Agencies who are eligible can submit requests for public assistance through the state within 30 calendar days from the date of the disaster declaration. This is in accordance with Title 44 of the Code of Federal Regulations, Section 206.202.

A disaster declaration for the lava flow erupting from the Pu‘u ‘Ō‘ō vent on Kilauea was signed by President Obama on Nov. 3.

Organizations with the state, county, and certain private non-profits who have already taken emergency protective measures, or who anticipate doing so, in response to the lava flow are encouraged to submit an application through the Hawai’i Emergency Management Agency, known formerly as State Civil Defense.
