Workshop on Success Coaching at HCC

Hawai’i Community College is offering a free public workshop called “Student Success Coaching – What You Need to Know.” The one-day, two-session workshop will give participants insight into academic coaching methodology.

The workshop is scheduled to be held on Thursday, Dec. 4 in Hawai’i CC’s Kaneikeao conference room in Hilo.

Designed to help those who work in education, workforce development, and service-oriented organizations, as well as parents and guardians, the workshops will help participants become better coaches for their students and clients.

Each session will run for three hours and participants can choose to attend the morning, afternoon or both sessions.

Session I is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and will present topics that include theories, structure, and techniques of coaching. Session II will run from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and includes skills building through role-play and interactive activities.

Participants who plan to attend the workshops will gain a better understanding of the mindsets of students and clients and learn to improve communications using that knowledge.

Student Success Coaches from the seven campuses of the University of Hawai’i Community College System make up the Ho’a Coaching Team who will be facilitating the workshop, many of which have received extensive training in coach and management skills.

The team has evolved their coaching styles to fit the unique environment in Hawai’i, working closely with academic advisors, counselors, retention specialists and other resources across campus to support students in achieving their personal, academic, and other professional goals.
