Puna Geothermal Venture Plant Pressure Release

At 1:06 p.m. Wednesday, the Puna Geothermal Venture plant experienced a pressure release, according to Hawai’i Country Civil Defense.

The release lasted about 10 to 15 seconds.

Immediately after the occurrence, assessments and response plans were initiated and it was indicated that there was no hydrogen sulfide release.

Additional hazard assessments were conducted by emergency response personnel and it was confirmed that there was no release of hydrogen sulfide.

Plant operations have been restored and there is currently no threat to the community.
