According to the Hawai’i Police Department, another individual was arrested in connection with an altercation that occurred Saturday morning in Hilo.

The arrest comes following HPD’s announcement of 21-year-old Pahoa man Atkinson Nakashima’s arrest and charge of second-degree attempted murder.

In a HPD release on Sunday, Nakashima was originally said to be from Hilo, but police have since updated his town of residency to Pahoa.

The incident occurred on Saturday morning on the 400 block of West Kawili St. Police arrived at the scene to find a 21-year-old man with a neck injury. Investigation revealed that Nakashima struck a man in the neck with a machete when the victim attempted to break up an altercation between a 21-year-old male and a 16-year-old boy.

The 16-year-old boy was arrested and charged with terroristic threatening on Sunday and was turned over to the jurisdiction of Family Court.

Since the 16-year-old is a minor, police have not released additional information.

The 21-year-old Hilo man who was struck with the machete was taken to Hilo Medical Center in stable condition. He has since been released from the hospital.
