The schedule for this weekend’s Big Island Interscholastic Federation football semifinals has changed yet again.

The four semifinal games, which were scheduled to be played last Friday and Saturday before preparations for Hurricane Ana closed schools and cancelled high school athletic events, was pushed back to Oct. 24-25.

Both Division II semifinal games will still be played on the same night. Division I top-seed Kamehameha-Hawai’i will host Honoka’a, the fourth-seeded representative. That game will kick off at 7 p.m. and be broadcast on ESPN Radio, AM 850 Hilo and AM 790 Kona.

The other Division II semifinal, third-seeded Hawai’i Preparatory Academy at number-two Konawaena, will kick off at 7:30 p.m. from Julian R. Yates Field in Kealakejua.

The change to the schedule involves the move of one of the two Division I semifinal games. Top-seeded Hilo was initially supposed to play Kea’au as part of a doubleheader at Kamehameha-Hawai’i’s Paiea Stadium on Friday. The doubleheader was created because Wong Stadium, Hilo’s home field, was believed to be in use.

After a few more phone calls were made, however, it was found Thursday that Wong Stadium would be available for a football game.

The Vikings will now play on Saturday against Kea’au, the fourth-seeded team in Division I, at 6 p.m. Also on Saturday, second-seed Kealakehe will host Waiakea, who defeated the Waveriders during the regular season. Junior varsity action will start at 5 p.m. from Waverider Stadium with the important varsity contest to follow.

The Division II and Division I championship games will now be played on the weekend of Oct. 31 – Nov. 1. The opening round of the First Hawaiian Bank/Hawai’i High School Athletic Association State Football Championships will be played the following weekend.
